Trout

Thursday, October 09th, 2008 | Author:

Craig Tucker went trout fishing on Arkansas’ Spring River last week. He left Greenville at !:30 a.m. to get there by good fishing time. His efforts were rewarded in that he caught a 3 pound, 20 inch rainbow. He was using a, no not a DT-6, size 18 gray caddis imitation.Luckily someone came along just as he hooked the fish and watched him land it and took the picture for proof to sidekick Frank that he indeed did catch the very  nice fish.

The other photo is of Craig in Wyoming last summer with a nice 17 inch tiger trout that he caught on a size 12 stonefly nymph.

Lake Ferguson

Tuesday, October 07th, 2008 | Author:

I went to Lake Ferguson this morning and fished till about 1:30. Things started slow and I had to use a worm to get them to bite, even had to shake it at some. The bite went from bad to worse and I went through a period with no action at all. On the way in I found a few schooling and added a few more but even the schooling fish were not just tearing it up. Ended up catching 19 but 2 1/2 was the largest. Worm and DT-6.  I saw Conlee. Wonder what he caught ?

Catfish Chute

Sunday, October 05th, 2008 | Author:

After a slow start and a little bad luck Mickey and I started to catch some bass at the Catfish Chute Sunday afternoon. Mickey caught the FOD, a beautiful 6 pound 2 ounce bass. We ended up with 14, most on a spinnerbait.

Lake Guntersville

Friday, October 03rd, 2008 | Author:

Mickey and I went to Lake Guntersville Tuesday and fished that afternoon, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning.  The “rat bite” was supposedly on, but instead of using a rat most people use frogs or worms fished around the plentiful vegetation in the lake.  The weather was bluebird skies and a North wind with lows in the high 40s, not particularly conducive to a feeding frenzy.  The first afternoon we caught 11 in Browns Creek, all on Ribbits, with the FOD a 5-1, shown in the first picture. All the bass we caught were fat and in great shape with a beautiful dark green color, due to the clear water. Wednesday we went 25 miles down the lake and put in at another spot, the goose pond. We saw a commotion and thought the fish were schooling and rushed over to the spot. We found a bass thrashing around trying to get a large bream out of his mouth that had its head in the basses’ gills and its fins in the top of the basses’ mouth.  I had trouble getting the bream out but when I did the bass swam off in good shape. The second picture shows the bass before the extraction. We went on to catch 9, the FOD being a 3-10. Thursday we returned to the goose pond and had a tough time getting any action until about 11, when I caught an 8 1/4 on a Ribbit. Fish in third photo and Ribbit in the fourth. We got disgusted after the bite ceased and returned to our Tuesday afternoon spot where Mickey proceeded to catch a 5 1/4 not over 100 yards from where I caught the 5-1 Tuesday afternoon. Fifth picture. Friday morning we returned to Browns creek, caught a couple, and left for home. We probably missed well over half of the bites we got on the Ribbit, frustrating, but we had a great time.

Garhole

Saturday, September 27th, 2008 | Author:

Back from D.C. and ready to fish so Mickey and I hit the garhole Saturday morning. The water is high and very clear, visibility at least 4 feet. We started slow but the bite seemed to build as the day progressed. The fish started out biting a worm right at the bank. The sides of the garhole go almost straight down so they were hitting in 3 to 6 feet of water. As the sun got high in the sky, the fish started hitting a ribbit frog.  We ended the day with 14 each, for a total of 28. FOD = 2 3/4#. We did not catch a one on a DT-6. The picture is of Mickey with a bass and a ribbit frog.

No fishing for a while

Friday, September 19th, 2008 | Author:

I’m in D.C. for a few days to help get HMIV situated to go look for work.  It’s taking longer than I expected due to a person at the apartment leasing company leaving work early this (Friday) afternoon.  We will have to wait till Monday to move in and then buy and put together furniture. The good part is I pass three BASS PRO SHOPS on the way home and will stop at one at least.

Other good trips

Saturday, September 13th, 2008 | Author:

Taff went after work and caught 27 the day Rufus, Finley and I went. He said they were tearing it up so the bite seems to be on in the PM. They were not tearing it up that morning.  John Eddleman also went in the last couple of days in a spot the river does not affect at this level and caught 10 from noon to 2:30. The photo is the FOD.
